Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by widespread muscle
pain, fatigue lasting more than 3 months, and the presence of multiple
points tender to light pressure affecting all four quadrants of the body
involving both right and left sides as well as above and below the waist.
Fibromyalgia affects as many one in 50 of Americans, mostly women.
The word fibromyalgia comes from the Latin fibro for fibrous tissue and
the Greek for myo for muscle algia for pain. Tenderness is found on points
on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, and upper and lower extremities.
Unlike arthritis, arth referring to joint and itis referring to
inflammation, fibromyalgia does not cause joint deterioration or
deformity. Nevertheless significant pain and fatigue of fibromyalgia and
can interfere with the ability to carry out daily activities.
No theories regarding what causes fibromyalgia are not universally
accepted. Medical pharmaceutical therapies involve neurotransmission and
psychotropic drugs and analgesics. Strategies used generally for
restoration for of health are important in treating fibromyalgia as they
are in many other conditions, including nutrition, detoxification, stress
management , restorative rest, metabolic balancing, etc. However, the
strategy which most often produces dramatic and quickest results even in
previously recalcitrant inpatients who have not been able receive
satisfactory relief in our experience is a relatively unknown, simple and
non-toxic toxic strategy which focuses on restoring balance to immune
function. |
