Optimizing Health

The Basis of Attaining Health and Wellness.

Obtaining and maintaining health has to with the interaction of our genes with the environment in which they reside. Our genes dictate our potential for expressing health under various environments. Our genes modify the environment in which they reside and the environment modifies our genetic expression. Our inherited genetic programming is dictated at conception. Our genetic makeup is also the result of various genetic-environmental interactions including those with chemicals, radiation and virus. The environment in which our genes exist may be modified via three categories. These categories are deficiency, toxicity, and communication. The first category, deficiency, has to do with the lack or relative lack of factors which prevent normal or optimal function and repair. Deficiency may be chemical in nature such as insufficient bodily stores of vitamin D. It may also reflect emotional issues such as insufficient nurturing. The second category, toxicity, has to do with the presence of factors which prevent normal or optimal function and repair. Examples of toxicity include the presence of harmful chemicals such as mercury and emotional stressors such as deleterious thoughts. The last category, communication or signaling, is more difficult to define. Communication or signaling has to do with chemicals, such as hormones, which go from one area of the body to another, electromagnetic signals which traveling across nerve fibers and between cells; and words which are powerful enough to make us laugh or cry.

Each category is intertwined and reflected in the next. By addressing these three categories and their our genetic interactions we can prevent and treat causes of disease and ultimately achieve more optimal states of health.
